A good weekend

Recipe:

  • Dining at Little Saigon for lunch with the BF, then being treated to it again a few hours later for dinner on The Company;

  • Seein my old rowing teammates for Sunday morning coffee and a planning meeting, then being asked by one of my oldest, dearest buddies how I've managed to keep my svelte figure despite not rowing regularly;

  • At the rowing meeting, discussing who'd like to train for the World Masters Games in Edmonton, Alberta, where one of my teammates is from;

  • Showing up for work tonight and finding out that due to a miscommunication between several managers, I'm not scheduled to work, but being asked to stay and help out, which is easy money;

  • Sleeping in late today and still having a ton of energy tonight.

    Miss you

    Kitty unexpectedly passed away yesterday.

    She was at the vet for a not-so-serious, same-day surgery, but even before the procedure, the vet went to check on her in her crate and found her motionless. They tried to revive her, but she didn't respond. Apparently, a previous, chronic problem with her lungs that we'd been aware of -- but didn't think was that serious -- suddenly became bad and took her life.

    Goodbye, Kitty. The house isn't the same without you. I miss you so much.

    Baby steps

    I identified myself as "the massage therapist" for the first time yesterday after calling someone who'd previously contacted me about a practice treatment.

    It felt weird.

    Dead-end job

    One reason why I'm getting out of the business:

    Detroit News -- After asking his journalism students how many read a newspaper regularly -- four or five out of 35 said they did -- a University of Michigan-Dearborn professor required them to bring a newspaper to class twice a week. "The students don't like it," student Laura Hipshire tells Laura Berman. PLUS: College students have a hard time naming a columnist they read on a regular basis.

    I don't hold it against any of those college students. Papers bore me, too. What would you rather do: Read day-old news, leaving stacks of waste around your house, or cruise the Web and read interactive news that's only perhaps minutes old?
