02/05/2003: "Must have iPod"

My Pocketful of Music
I'm what most people would call a gadget freak. So far, for example, I have six PDAs -- two Palms, two Handsprings, and two Pocket PCs -- and I've had six laptops in the past eight years. None of these items has changed my daily life as much as the iPod I got last December. I know it sounds silly, but this 20GB MP3 player has revolutionized my day. I no longer listen to the radio in my car -- it's the iPod either through headphones or using a nifty little wireless transmitter that sends the signal to my car stereo. At home, I plug iPod into the stereo system and listen to it instead of CDs or radio. I've uploaded 51 albums to it so far, and I've used only 5 GB of space.

Tax return coming soon. I see one in my future.

Yeah, but I don't want to give up 20 gigs of hard drive space to MP3s at the moment. I'd rather get an external FireWire drive for music so keep space on the mothership free for work.

Heck, you can copy them to your computer until you get an iPod and ditch the disks right away.

I'm starting to think there's not a compelling reason to keep a whole buncha CDs I bought for one or two tracks. I could rip the good tracks onto an iPod and get rid of the physical discs, which would save a lot of storage space.

You betcha. Adult toys! Er, electronic toys, that is.

Girls and their toys.
