I e-mailed this guy out of the blue recently, intrigued that, among many other similarities, he's another online "AHuff." I stumbled upon his site via links from a couple of other blogs. While reading his site, I was struck by how many things we had in common: We're both GenXers (he's actually a few years younger than me, but he managed to squeak into the demographic); we both have cats; we both are sometime journalists, sometime designers; we both have ties to New Orleans; and we both had attended a Chicago Cubs game earlier this year (he lives there).
I never heard from him.
I introduced myself in my e-mail and mentioned our similarities... Then I apologized if I creeped him out with my e-mail. Did I freak him out? I stressed that he wasn't obligated to respond; I merely wanted to say hi. But I did hope to get a friendly-neighbor reply from him anyway, maybe even start a casual correspondence. I hope I didn't freak him out. I didn't mean to.

I wasn't aware of your site until someone clicked through the link in this post. No worries about extra spam, although I'll probably look a little closer at the addresses before I hit the delete key from now on.
For the record, I have no goatee...I'm assuming neither do you. ;)

LOL, didn't catch that one, Phil. It sounds most disturbing...

OMG AHuff! It's you!!! What a surprise!!! I wonder which one of us is wearing the goatee and sash. :) Thank you for responding.
I had no inclination to think you'd read that latest entry, seeing as how I didn't think you were even aware of my blog. I won't pester you with another spam. I'm sure you get enough of it already.
I don't know how much, if any, of my original e-mail you read, but I'll just point you to another "AHuff" if you aren't already aware of him: Aubrey Huff of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays (http://tampabay.devilrays.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/tb/team/tb_player_bio.jsp?club_context=tb&playerid=333492). His name is frighteningly similar to mine, so some of my co-workers continually give me updates on how well "I'm" doing (whether I like it or not) in the big leagues.
Anyway, take care and hope to hear from you occasionally.

You didn't freak me out. I just didn't see your email. I get tons of spam every day, much of it containing parts of my name (ahuff@xposyrself.com, jennyx@huff.yahoo.com, etc.) so unless it had a stand-out subject line I probably assumed your email was spam and deleted it without even opening it. Sorry. Email me again and I'll keep my eye out.

Didja ever see that episode of "The Twilight Zone" where the blonde guy from "Adam-12" was convinced his evil twin from another dimension (without a goatee -- curious) was skulking around a bus station? Some lady convinced him the guy was trying to steal his place in THIS dimension. Maybe that's what this guy is afraid of.
